Study English and Paleontology in Canada

I am really glad to study English because my goal is to study paleontology at the University of Calgary. In Japan, I majored in Earth Science, with a specialization in Paleontology at the Hokkaido University. I also studied English but I realized that I could improve my English more by coming to Calgary. Living in Canada, sometimes I realize how difficult it is to learn English, especially, it is very difficult for me to speak and understand English. In contrast, memorizing English words is very easy for me. After classes, I read English books and learn new words that I do not know and I write them in my notebook. Or, I talk with English speakers outside of class. The skill that I most need to improve is to understand English without translating it to Japanese in my mind. Therefore, I should study English everyday. However, a day is shorter than I need and sometimes I am pushed for time. Spending time more efficiently is good skill to have when going to college. For my free time, I like to draw pictures, watch movies or go hiking in the mountains. Free time gives me motivation. When I finish my English and Paleontology studies at the University of Calgary, I want to be a paleontologist. Dreaming of my future, I study hard!

Hi Kohei,

I enjoyed reading about yourself and your dream. Your way to listen to and understand English without thinking in Japanese is immersing yourself in English. TV time in English is a lot of fun. Try CNN, CBC, Friends, Seinfeld and don't forget to use your caption control in order to read subtitles in English.

Best,

Z.
